The event not to be missed for a variety of reasons, is the AGM, Lecture Day and 60th celebrations. The Norfolk and Suffolk Group were asked to host this as the HPS was inaugurated in Norfolk in 1957 by Alan Bloom.

We have a sub-committee who are making preparations for this event. We are holding this at Easton College which is just off the A47 behind the Norfolk Show Ground. A lot of organising has been done already, spearheaded by Len Speller who is our chief negotiator with the college and Chris Davies who is the chief negotiator with The National – they have both put in a stalwart effort in both negotiation and practical organisation and their determination and patience, especially in informing and listening to our sub-committee; within this sphere has been, and is, exemplary. Other members of the sub-committee have likewise been working just as diligently and we are fortunate that we have such a highly skilled group, whose diverse talents are all pulling towards making March 25th a celebration fit for our sixty years.

As well as sundries, visiting nurseries, and a N&S HPS plant table, there is the HPS plant table to which delegates are invited to donate plants. Speakers are Matthew Biggs and Alan Gray and we are hoping to have Thordis Fridriksson presenting ‘The Garden Party’ live from Easton College on this Saturday.

As well as being able to put faces to the names we have come across in the National newsletters we are hoping to have some of the descendents of the initial committee as invited guests. One of their tasks will be cutting our 60th anniversary cake – yes, there will be enough to go around – may need help from cake makers within our membership. We will be decorating the hall appropriately so may need your help in accessing suitable greenery, flowers etc. We are hoping that some of the students will be able to join with us in this venture, by showcasing some of their work.

Tickets will cost around £22.00, celebration cake and refreshments during the day, with a hot midday meal option - being provided to buoy you up for all that plant buying, interspersed with listening to two erudite speakers

This really is an opportunity not to be missed - is on our doorstep and is a chance for us as a group to make members of HPS other groups from around the country feel welcome and, possibly encourage them to visit our gardens in Norfolk and Suffolk
