Written by John Metcalf. Posted in Events Past

Hales Hall GatehouseHales Hall Barn, Loddon, Norfolk, was the venue for Norfolk & Suffolk’s group of The Hardy Plant Society’s  20th year anniversary. The gardens at Hales Hall are framed by Tudor buildings, yew hedges, an interesting moat and the gardens are stocked with rare and interesting plants.

The barn is an example of a late 15th century thatched building and is the largest barn in England.

There is a pottager with both tradional and unusual vegetables and a miniature orchard of fruit trees growing in pots.

The family nursery in now run by Stephen and Debbie Read who grow a wide ranger of conservatory plants. grapes, citrus, figs and climbing plants together with a selection of fruit trees.

The nursery holds the  National Collection of Citrus.
