The first thing to notice in the above chart is that the four months, September to December had a higher total rainfall than the previous eight months combined. Many would say that we needed that higher rainfall (in fact my own records for Pakenham show that the total annual rainfall for each of the five years 2015 20199 was below the average of the last 17 years).

It is also interesting to note the variation in total rainfall amongst this small group, 319.5mm between the highest and the lowest annual total. Although Pakenham, being further south, misses many of the shower fronts rolling in from the South West it is a bit of a lottery as to where the heavy showers fall.

According to the Met. Office averages for East Anglia the rainfall in this Autumn / Winter period was well over the long term average in each of the four months with October 138% and December 148% being the most above the monthly norm. Perhaps surprisingly, the total sunshine hours in September and December were also well above average whereas October and November by contrast had below average temperatures and sunshine.
