Norwich Garden Visits - 24th July 2010

Our morning visit was to a garden in Old Lakenham.  This is a beautiful private garden showing the knowledge and interest of the owner and cared for by one of our members, Mike Newstead.  It is very inviting as soon as one enters the gate.  The garden runs down to the River Yare and incorporates well-established and interesting planting.  There is a serious water feature!

The afternoon visit found us in the garden of our members, Don and Sally Smith.  Although this garden has hosted HPS visits on several occasions, some of us had still not been there and what a treat we had in store.  They describe their garden as small but packed with plants - I honestly don't think there was room to shoe-horn another plant in!  There was also a large pond.  Also, the next-door neighbours had kindly allowed us to visit their garden - we accessed this through a gate from Don and Sally's.  This garden has matured over the last few years and the influence of Don and Sally was to be seen.  Who could but fail to be inspired living next door to the Smiths!
